A Guide To Insults
In our culture today, we throw around insults like it’s no big deal. But do we actually know what we mean when we use insulting terms? Here is a guide to everything you need to know about the insults you use so often, and why sometimes it’s not okay. Whether you are roleplaying or writing a character, remind yourself to point out why it is bad to use these insulting terms. This guide is also helpful if you want to educate yourself, although it came out more as a rant.
Why you should be careful with your insults
It’s not only personally abusive, it might have larger connotations than you think. If you’re writing a character in a story, be sure to epitomize their downfall. If you’re roleplaying a character, be sure to say why you do not support this type of language. Remember, we are not only educating ourselves, but the next generation as well.
Fag (or Faggot)
This is a pejorative term to refer to gay and effeminate male. If you don’t know what pejorative mean, it means degrading and abusive term. You are engaging in verbal abuse when you use this term.
Gay is just a term to describe someone’s sexuality. Yes, it is fine to say “He is gay” when referring to someone’s homosexuality. However, it is not okay to use it in any other situation. It is not okay to describe something as gay, “your shirt is so gay”, and in a degrading way “ew, stop being so gay.” Here is a good article on why you should stop using the word gay: [x]
First of all, what a woman does with her body is her business. Slut is used to describe a woman who have sex with a lot of people, or even act remotely promiscuous. Stop using the term slut. Vist these articles: [x], [x], [x]
Someone who engages in sexual activities for money. Someone, meaning both male and female. Should not be used. If you want to call someone a prostitute, say that they are a hooker, a sex worker, or a call girl/boy. But don’t call them a whore. Don’t call anyone else a whore. Avoid using this insult.
Is a gender slur. It refers to a female who isn’t afraid to take charge and be independent. There is a difference between mean and bitch. “Why are you being so mean?” Don’t say “Why are you being a bitch?”
Is used to refer to someone with Down Syndrome, and should not be used in any circumstances. Don’t use it as a jab to insult someone’s intellect. This is offensive, and highly sensitive.
There are many more insults that are not okay. Insults in general are not okay. Think before you open your mouth. Google not okay insults, google slut-shaming, and google why you should stop insulting my genitalia.
Moral of the story: Think before you open your mouth.
